Read “Problems with Omnivorism“ in my new website:
Give Fruit a Chance
Mainstream adoption of dietary practices such as SAD reflect a deeper issue. Most people believe that humans are omnivores. In a sense, we are, but that is not our highest potential.
Omnivores are considered animals that can get chemical energy and nutrients from materials originating from plant and animal origin. Often, omnivores also incorporate food sources such as algae, fungi, and bacteria into their diet. (1) Based on this definition, humans may be considered omnivores since we can get energy and nutrients from all previously mentioned sources. However, humans are also known to react adversely to some of these food sources, the most common being milk, eggs, fish, and wheat.
It is clear that even though we can get chemical energy and nutrition from animal products and processed foods, this doesn’t mean that we are meant to consume them. Think about Twinkies and gummy bears. We may be able to get some nutrition out of them, but they do more harm than good.
Animal products, in addition to being directly associated with illness, rise a concern for animal welfare and protection of the global environment. Most people think humans are supposed to eat flesh. Get ready to step outside the Matrix.
