This morning I woke up feeling slightly under the weather. I wasn’t sure what the reason could be, perhaps it was the water I was drinking from my camelback, or the old-ish longans I had last night. Perhaps it was a tiny bit of stress I have been gathering around.
I took some deep breaths before getting out of bed and then headed straight to the community room. I laid on the floor and breathed, then Jake joined me for our daily yoga practice. This time I taught him how to work with the breath, we did some simple poses and called it a day.
Work and Meeting at the Kanekiki Farm
By the time meeting started I was feeling much better and had completely forgot about my health. I got selected to lead the front harvest and teach the two new girls. It was an interesting experience to take on a new leadership role. We were fairly productive considering our slower pace. More than anything we got oranges and avocados.
I ended up working an extra hour because we were a bit short on staff. I didn’t mind working extra because I can save the hour for a day when I need the time. I also enjoyed working alone for the last part of my shift.
After work I ate some papayas and got ready for our Monday meeting. We covered a lot today, especially on the areas of safety, substance use and community events. I felt very good about everything we discussed and I am excited with where the Kanekiki Farm is at and where our raw vegan community is heading.
Reading More Fruitarian Books
Following our meeting I headed to the kitchen and ate half a dozen oranges. Then I got ready to head over to the Warm Ponds. This time I wasn’t interested in getting into the water but I have heard there would be a free acro yoga group at the park.
We caught a quick ride outside the Kanekiki Farm and got dropped off right at the ponds. Andy and Destiny went to the water and I sat on the grass and read. My book for today is called Your Natural Diet and it was a pretty good choice. To be honest, I am not stocked about how it is written but the information in it is very good. I would still recommend it, but not as much as Mango Wodzak’s Destination Eden or Dr. Robert Morse’s The Miracle Detox Sourcebook. Those are certainly some of my favorite fruitarian books.
An Old and New Love: Acro Yoga
Around 4 p.m. we met with Joel, a 60+ year old man who lead us into the acro yoga flow. Lisandra joined us as well, she is an Ashtanga Yoga teacher who is well known by the community and teaches yoga classes near the Kanekiki Farm.
I really enjoyed practicing acro yoga, I love it especially when I do it with people I know and when I am lead by a teacher, or a buddy, like Joel, who is gentle with his approach. I felt safe and welcomed, I definitely want to do more. It shouldn’t be hard to find more partners here in Hawaii to practice with. It is a lovely way to connect with strangers, friends and lovers as well.
Mono Meals for the Night
We made it back to the Kanekiki Farm just in time to open the fridge. I had no idea what I wanted to eat so I got a bag of tomatoes out and went with that. I thought it wasn’t going to be enough but I actually feel pretty full from it, not bloated, but not hungry either. I only had five medium sizes tomatoes, who would have thought…
Now I am sitting upstairs in the community room. I have a handful of papayas next to me and a “chocolate sapote” which is like a mamye sapote that taste like chocolate. I have never had one before. I want to eat it but I want to wait until I feel truly hungry, I am practicing being patient and listening to my body as well.
Talking About our Insecurities
My last activity of the day was joining the Meeting of the Masters. This is a weekly meeting we have where we ask questions to help us get to know ourselves better. The topic for today was “what are your insecurities?”… I learned a lot.
Now is bedtime, I hope I can get to bed soon. I noticed that lately I have been going to sleep quite late and I don’t like that. I need to get a better habit in place. One thing at a time.
