Today was a nice day but it went by really fast. I woke up at 7 a.m. to make sure I would be ready at 7:30 to go to the Maku Sunday Market. I wanted to buy cucumbers, tomato, longans, lemons, pineapple and zucchinis now that I am done with my 7 day long papaya fast.
As soon as we got to the market I regret going since I only needed a few things. All I needed was 10 minutes there but ended up spending three hours of my day because the group needed to stop at another store and stay at the market to eat food there. I decided from now on I will just ask someone to get the produce for me.
I simply don’t like going to the market, there isn’t much for me to do or see and it feels like a waste of time.
My Most Awesome time at Ecstatic Dance
On the way back I got dropped off at the intersection of Pahoa. From there I got a ride to Kalani’s ecstatic dance. This was my third Sunday in a row going to the dance. It was my best time so far. The music was great and the people were awesome. Towards the end of the jam I danced with a couple of ladies. I felt a bit shy but not as much as before. I also danced with a guy called Glen, we practiced contact improvisation. It was a ton of fun, I want to practice more so I can feel more comfortable dancing with men and women.
After ecstatic dance was over I stayed at Kalani for a while connecting with the people I had danced with and making new friends. I talked to a man who is involved with the Man Kind Project and I also connected with Dave who is in charge of the volunteer program for Hawaii’s Tantra Fest which is coming up next week.
I also went inside the welcome desk to inquire for job opportunities at Kalani. There is a position available at the cashier stand that pays $10/hour. I probably won’t take it because it seems boring, I want something more engaging that would be worth my time.
Before leaving Kalani I set on the grass next to a girl who was playing the ukulele, she sounded lovely. I listened to three of her songs, one of which was in Spanish. I learned a lot just sitting there next to her, it was very inspiring. Kalani offers some free ukulele classes which I may start to attend. We will see, there is a ton of awesome things to do here, but I don’t have a car and I don’t feel like spending that much time on the road, at least not for now.
A Sticky Ride Back to the Kanekiki Farm
It took me a while to get back to Kanekiki. I had to take three different rides and walk for a while in between. I made it back around 3 p.m. which felt super late. This is why I don’t want to go to the Maku Market anymore, it just takes a huge piece of my day.
I want to share that I had an interesting experience during my first ride out of Kanekiki. I got picked up by a group of three people on a very fancy car. In the front seats there were two women around my age and on the back seat there was a man a bit older than me. He was eating pork and talking about how delicious it was, the girls were agreeing.
The interesting thing is that they were referring to it as “the pig” and consciously talking about it with full awareness of the murder they had been part of, however, they seemed to have no remorse about it at all, in fact, they were celebrating the joy of their sense of taste and placing that above the suffering of “the pig”.
I remained quiet during their conversation. After a while they asked me where I was staying and I told them that I am staying at the Kanekiki Far, which is a raw vegan community. The guy on the back seat mentioned he had hear of it and that he remember it being very strict.
I told them we are not allowed to eat cooked food inside the farm and that we are not allowed to use drugs or alcohol outside. I also mentioned that I know there are people who like doing some things and other people that like doing others and that this universe is kind enough to create opportunities and support for us all. I was happy with how I handled that.
Salad Realizations
As soon as I got back to Kanekiki, I ate some papayas and then prepared a mamey pie which is basically a mixture of mamye sapote, frozen bananas and fresh bananas. It was my first time doing this and it actually turned out great. I was concerned it was going to fall heavy on my belly since neither mamey nor bananas have a high water content. To my surprise it all went through very well.
For dinner I decided to have a salad. This perhaps was a mistake. I was excited to be out of my papaya fast and even more excited to have so much produce. I ended up making a small bowl of tomatoes, cucumbers and green peppers.
I knew an avocado would be too much, Bill had recommended to stay away from them for a few days as I come back from my fast. I only added a spoon full, I don’t know why, I just couldn’t resist the temptation. Another thing Bill told me was that ALL GREEN PEPPERS ARE UNRIPE, this was a surprise, I guess I am not having those anymore.
The salad didn’t settle so well. I don’t know if it was the green pepper, the little bit of avocado or the fact that I had too much. It was surprising since I was careful to prepare a small bowl.
I decided that I need to go back to my natural instincts and only eat when I am hungry. This whole philosophy of eating at a certain time just doesn’t work for me. I also decided that sometimes it is better to eat the cucumbers, tomatoes or whatever it is, on its own, as mono-meals, so I don’t prepare so much and they feel forced to eat it all.
Needless to say, I haven’t pooped since having that salad. I know it may not be a big deal to you, but for me, the more I poop, the healthier I feel, it is a perfect correlation. This makes sense to me because pooping less means there is more food inside my digestive track. All things equal, pooping more and more regularly, to me, is always better than pooping less often.
Finishing off the Night
After dinner I went back upstairs and worked on my fruitarian blog. I am just a couple of days behind. This is probably going to be my last week writing daily. Next week I will be working on the Kanekiki Farm twice as much and I don’t want to add that pressure on. I also want to spend more time focusing on my fruitarian books and videos.
The last thing I did before going to bed was watch The Lego Movie. I had never seen it before and I got to say it was pretty great. The scrip was excellent, the visuals were unique and the characters made a lot of sense. I strongly recommend it.
The message I got from the movie is that we are all special and we are all master creators. However, we need to embrace our own skills and our own imagination. We need to stop copying others and dare to live our own dreams. This is why I am so happy I am still working on this fruitarian bodybuilding project. It is unique and it is me.
