Intermittent fasting is one of those things that I have always wanted to do and never got to. However, every time I end up doing it, mostly by coincidence, I feel excellent. Yesterday was the perfect example, I didn’t have breakfast or lunch, instead, I ate some fruit as my first meal in the afternoon. Fasting during the day allowed me to feel light and energized, I didn’t feel hungry until way later in the day.
Benefits of Intermittent Fasting
That is not the first time I experience the benefits of intermittent fasting. I had a similar experience in Hawaii when I incidentally avoided eating or drinking for more than 20 hours. These are different from other experiences fasting where I “had to do it” for religious purposes. I much rather practice fasting to train myself to wait for true hunger and true need for food. Longer fasts, for 3, 7 or 40 days may be appropriate too, only if they are approached wisely.
Anyhow, I wanted to share this video about the benefits of intermittent fasting and eating less. I find it to be filled with awesome ideas. In fact, I took the pleasure of writing down some of my favorite ideas from the speaker on the subject of intermittent fasting:
- We are frugivores, we are fruit eating beings, we can thrive on high calorie dense fruit.
- There is a chance that our frugivore ancestors had brains larger than ours and that deviation from our natural fruit diet is causing our brains to shrink.
- The medicine and food industries profit from people being sick. We need to wake up and change our behavior.
- The extra energy we receive from intermittent fasting and a fruitarian diet should be used to serve others.
- Fasting is a profound experience, it has been practice in spiritual and religious circles for thousands of years.
- Intermittent fasting may be as simple as one or two meals per day.
- Cucumbers, tomatoes, olives and avocados can be eaten in the evenings.
- Fruitarians with experience may have an easier transition as their bodies are adapted to be more efficient with their caloric intake, storage and use. This is why it is important to detox and cleanse through a fruitarian diet and/or intermittent fasting.
- Intermittent fasting, and fasting in general, give time to the body to absorb and eliminate the previously consumed food.
- It is important to mono-meal, or at least to follow good food combining strategies.
- It is very important to avoid over-eating.
- It is preferable to eat full meals once or twice a day than graze during the day.
- Fasting can be an anti-aging protocol.
- Build up slowly, from 1 day to 3, to 7, 21, 40…
- The less you eat, the more vital you are. Fasting benefits the brain, heart, digestion, immune system and glandular system.
