Today was the first day of the year and my 32nd day at the Kanekiki farm. It was also my first day practicing a truly fruitarian diet
I woke up early with plenty of time to practice some yoga and work on my fruitarian blog. For breakfast I had 6 papayas. This was the first of my 7 day papaya fast. I felt that 6 papayas were too many to eat in a row, just like 4 had been my maximum a few weeks ago. It is clear that my ability to take in more fruit is increasing, but I still need to be careful to avoid overeating.
Ecstatic Dance at Kalani and Naked Time at the Beach
At 10 a.m. we left with Destiny and Andy to attend the ecstatic dance event at the Kalani yoga retreat center which is located a few miles away from the Kanekiki farm. I had a great time at Kalani, probably as much as I did last week. This time I got to interact more with Destiny one-on-one which was very nice.
From Kalani we headed to Kahena, the nude beach south of Hilo. This time the ocean was tranquil and the waves were small. I got in the water for twenty minutes and then headed out to spend some time alone. I laid on a long fallen tree and sun-bathed naked for an hour while taking a nap.
While I was at Kahena I saw Andy eating some oranges and almost asked him for some but I was very committed to my papaya fast. Looking back, I think that having an orange or two wouldn’t have been a big deal at all, in my opinion, oranges are as healthy as papayas. I did enjoy exercising my will power to say no and go on without eating food.
Soon after it began to rain and we decided to head back to town. Right before leaving I took some beautiful pictures of a lovely baby playing on the beach with Destiny. I organized them in the form of a story:
Once upon a time there was a curious baby girl…
who met another very, very curious baby girl.
They had an instant connection, from the very first touch…
an both of them had fun and laughed very very much.
Then this baby girl took a dump on a shoe…
I guess after all, we all need to poop.

Doubting My Commitment to Remain Raw Vegan
We got a ride to Pahoa, the closest town to the Kanekiki farm. We got dropped off at the Awa Bar, Andy ordered a couple of toasts with peanut butter. They looked delicious and smelled great. The experience made me wonder how long I will be able to follow the raw vegan diet. After ten minutes of being at the bar I decided to head home, I was tired, hungry and pretty bored.
It didn’t take long for me to get a ride back to the Kanekiki farm. As soon as I got back I ate another half a dozen papayas, again it felt like I had one too many.
While I was eating my papayas I told Jake that my seeing Andy eating those pieces of bread had shaken my perspective on my raw vegan / fruitarian experiment. I wonder if I will be doing it for much longer. A part of me wants to follow the fruitarian diet forever. Another part of me asks: “What is the point?”… Sometimes I even wonder if I will continue to be a strict vegan, or a vegan at all.
I know there are countless of benefits to stick to the practices of raw veganism and fruitarianism. It is hard to describe what I am going through.
I spent the rest of the evening writing on my fruitarian blog, I finally caught up to editing the blogs I haven’t been able to work on. Now I need to fix my website so I can upload them and share them with you.
I am happy to say that my first day on a papaya fast was a success. I didn’t feel any detriments at all. I also didn’t feel amazing either, it was a weird day because I only had some papayas in the morning and some at night, aside from that I didn’t eat or drink anything at all.
I trust tomorrow will be a bigger test, I am excited to give it a try.
