After 30 hours of non-stop traveling this fruitarian bodybuilder finally made it to Vilcabamba, Ecuador. I came here because I want to continue exploring the fruitarian diet in a health conscious town that is as beautiful as it is affordable.
Don’t get me wrong, becoming a fruitarian in Hawaii was also a beautiful and affordable experience that I got to share with many health conscious people. However, dollar for dollar, and flower for flower, Vilcabamba wins. The views here are breathtaking, and you can buy 15 oranges for a single dollar!
My Obsession with the Fruitarian Diet
You may know that I have been transitioning to a fruitarian diet for the past 6 months. This is a choice I made after learning that, when it comes to health, ethics and environmentalism, fruit is by far the best food we can consume.
To me, fruit is the best food group for humans, especially when we consider that humans are frugivores. Fruit is easy to digest, filled with vitamins, highly energetic and it contains all the essential calories, fats and amino acids our bodies need. Yes, I said it, fruit has plenty of amino acids and I am convinced it is possible to build muscle on an all fruit diet. Many people have done it and that is why I am well on my way to become a fruitarian bodybuilder.
I say that I have an obsession with the fruitarian diet because eating a high fruit diet has been my greatest focus for the past 6 months. When I first heard about fruitarianism I thought it was a joke, but the more I learned, the more hooked I got. What can I say… I am just following my heart. 😉
Does the Fruitarian Diet Rule My Life
Yes it does… (pause)… no, of course not, I am joking. =P … The true ruler of my life is passion, it may be the passion of my heart, or maybe the passion of my mind, perhaps both. What I am trying to say is that the fact that I am highly passionate about something doesn’t mean that I am fully attached to it. Sometimes I joke around saying that I have an obsession with fruitarianism, or that I am addicted to fruit, but all of that is just a joke.
I have no reason to believe that my new passion for “high fruit living” is detrimental at all. Well, I guess you could say that it has thrown me out into the unknown, lead me to make two trips to the tropics in less than six months, and occupied a great majority of my time and resources… You could even argue that it is messing up my health, making me less social and keeping me away from focusing in my career. However, we could just as easily argue that it is helping me cleanse and detox my body, become a more aware and ethical human, and giving me a reason to push myself to see places I could have never seen, like Vilcabamba and Hawaii.
This is not the first time I make radical changes in my life in order to pursue some super new ideas and goals. Back in 2012 I left my job and career as an independent consultant to study and become a yoga teacher. Then again in 2014 I placed teaching aside to become a massage therapist.
Change is certainly a constant in my life and I tend to move quickly from place to place, job to job and relationship to relationship. Perhaps I “suffer” from “shiny object syndrome”, or maybe I am just curious, passionate and very much in tune with my heart.
I am sure my journey into fruitarianism is no mistake.
Fruitarian Bodybuilding in Vilcabamba, Ecuador
I plan on being in Vilcabamba for 70 days. I would stay longer but I want to attend my cousins wedding in July. During these months I will be focusing on eating a fruitarian diet and writing a couple of fruitarian books. The first one is called Give Fruit a Chance.
Through these books I will be sharing everything I know about fruitarianism. My intention is not to convince or convert anyone, I just love to write and this is a subject I am very passionate about. .
In regards to my fruitarian bodybuilding approach, I plan to exercise every day. My workouts will be a mixture of yoga, Foundation Training, and other body weight styles such as calisthenics.
There are no weight rooms or gyms in Vilcabamba, at least as far as I know. I also don’t want to depend on external weights and machines to become a fruitarian bodybuilder. I want to build an impressive physique with a free and simple approach that allows me to workout anywhere anytime. Wish me luck! =D
