The following are some notes I took when I first started designing my fruitarian diet plan. Since then I have learned many things. This is why I recommend you read my fruitarian blog to stay up-to-date with the evolution of my fruitarian diet plan. If you want to learn about fruitarian weight loss, this article is a great place to start.
What is a Fruitarian Diet Plan?
A fruitarian diet plan allows you to follow a diet that is mainly fruit based. Among those who follow a fruitarian diet, some people eat more fruit and other people eat less. As far as I am concerned, anyone who gets at least 51% of their calories from fruit is a fruitarian. I like being inclusive in my definition.
Perfect fruitarianism (where you eat only fruit and nothing else) is hard to accomplish. I only know a handful of people that do this. If you want to learn the details of what a fruitarian diet is I recommend you read this article or buy fruitarian books such as Destination Eden: Fruitarianism Explained, The Eden Fruitarian Guidebook and The Miracle Detox Sourcebook.
Fruitarian Weight Loss with a Diet Plan
A fruitarian diet plan for weight loss may or may not include only fruits. I think it is very easy to lose weight on a fruitarian diet. All you have to do is make sure you have at least two or three fruitarian meals per day. You do not need any fancy fruitarian recipes. Just buy lots of fresh, organic fruit and eat as much as you want and as often as you can.
Losing weight on a fruitarian diet is pretty easy, especially if you are used to eating lots of animal products, grains and processed foods. You don’t really need a fruitarian diet plan for weight loss but you do need to follow some simple guidelines.
Fruitarian Diet Plan for Breakfast
First of all you want to substitute as many meals as you can with fruit. Start your day with a fruitarian breakfast. Mono meals are ideal but you can also make a smoothie if that feels better at first. Starting your day with fruit will get you going in the right direction. This is very important and should not be overlooked. Just by having a fruitarian breakfast you may start to see your weight go down after a few weeks.
Fruitarian Diet Plan for Lunch and Dinner
After your fruitarian breakfast you want to include a diet plan for lunch and dinner. When you try to lose weight it may help to burn more calories than you consume. I am not saying you need to starve! A good rule of thumb is to burn 500 calories more than you consume day after day. That will usually help you by cutting a pound of weight per week, which is a safe and sustainable amount. If you can’t help to eat too many calories you can offset this amount by exercising more.
Remember that you do not want to lose too much weight too quickly or it could be dangerous. There are many things that you need to consider when you use a fruitarian diet to lose weight. Make sure that your fruitarian meal plan takes the following things into consideration. There aren’t many real fruitarian diet dangers but you may run into some complications if you are not careful.
Fruitarian Diet Dangers
Most people who do not know much about the fruitarian diet will tell you that the biggest fruitarian diet dangers include potential deficiencies and the lack of certain nutrients in the diet. As far as I know, this is a lot of nonsense. From what I have learned, it is easy to get all the nutrients you need from fruit because fruit is what humans are supposed to eat. We are mostly related to primates (monkeys) and if you look at them you can see their favorite food is fruit.
Doctors and nutritionist will say that the fruitarian diet lacks essential fatty acids, proteins and vitamins such as B12 and they recommend you stick to the animal products or take some supplements. This advice tends to be faulty to say the least. There are many nutrients that we do not actually need and others that our body can make on its own.
Protein for example, can not be used by our bodies. Proteins must first be broken down into amino acids so that it can be absorbed. Fruit is rich in amino acids even though it has no protein in it. This makes it far superior to animal products which come full of toxins, cholesterol and saturated fats.
There is also the debate about B12 and vitamin D. I do not want to get into much of a discussion here but I know of people with B12 deficiencies who have lived for decades without any complications. I also know of people who claim to get B12 straight from the soil. Vitamin D is even more non-sense since it can be easily obtained by simply being in the sun (not inside the sun but under the sun… you know what I mean…)
The two most real fruitarian diet dangers that you do need to be careful are losing too much weight too fast and getting an overwhelming detox reaction that throws you into a deep healing crisis.
Fruitarian Detox
Most of the time when you lose weight what you are losing is fat weight and water weight. Both fat and water are retained by your body to serve as buffers for acids and toxins that have built up inside your tissues. These toxins and acids would damage your cells and organs if they were not being insulated by fat and mucus. If you burn too much fat without giving your body enough time to discharge the waste, then you will feel all those toxins moving inside your body and you will feel like S#!^.
Think about this: For many years, probably decades, you have been eating toxic food. This toxicity has built up in your body and it isn’t easy to move and push out. Our body contains a special system called the lymphatic system which is miles and miles long. This lymphatic system is the body’s sewage system and it contains all the waste that is expelled from your cells as a byproduct of metabolic functions. The lymph system also contains other toxins, acids and wastes that you may have picked up from the air, water, soil or anything that you come into contact with.
This lymphatic system can get clogged if you do not move it properly. When you start a fruitarian diet a detox is unavoidable. The fruit will help you break down fat and get your lymph moving but if you can’t filter and eliminate the waste fast enough you will start to feel intense detox reactions such as a rash on your skin (which is what happened to me). This is what is known in the world of detox as a healing crisis.
Healing crises can have many forms, intensities and durations, Sometimes they involved a rash, other times they include headaches, other times they involve vomiting and so on. If your body is overly toxic it is almost granted that you will have a detox reaction that will take you onto a healing crisis. This is why it is important to take things slowly if you can and to educate yourself. When it comes to understanding the fruitarian detox and healing crises the best resource out there is Dr. Robert Morse’s book: The Miracle Detox Sourcebook.
Fruitarian Diet Plan for Weight Loss
I am going to repeat this just in case it wasn’t clear: When you start a fruitarian diet you will experience weight loss, it is almost unavoidable. Everyone starts from a different place but the vast majority of people are overweight. If these people gain weight on a fruitarian diet then it is very likely that something else is wrong with their bodies and in that case I would strongly suggest you call the office of Dr. Robert Morse to get an analysis and some healing herbs.
During my first month on the fruitarian diet I lost 5 pounds and I wasn’t even trying to lose weight. It just happened. After that my weight stabilized and I haven’t lost much weight since. The reason why I didn’t lose more weight is because I was already pretty skinny and I wasn’t super sick. Losing weight on the fruitarian diet was never my objective and I never focused on it. It still happened though because fruit is the healthiest food for humans and most of us have been eating a horrible diet throughout our whole life. .
You may find that you will loose a more or less weight than I did. This is all fine. I think that the most important thing regarding a fruitarian weight loss is to take things slowly and be gentle with your body. Do not force yourself to eat too much or too little. Start by simply eating as much fruit as you can.
Low Fat and High Water Content Fruits for Fruitarian Weight Loss
The perfect fruitarian diet plan for weight loss should focus on consuming low fat, high water content fruit. These include watermelons, melons, papayas and the like. This type of fruits are the complete opposite to avocados, bananas, dates and dried figs.
Don’t get me wrong, avocados and dates are great but they are not the best when you are trying to lose weight on a fruitarian diet. Avocados are high fat fruits that take longer to break down due to their high fat content. Dates are heavily packed with sugar and they do not contain much water. This makes them a bit trickier to use because they can spike your insulin levels and also dehydrate you more than you want. Dates also tend to feel heavy in your belly if you eat too many and they could turn to fat if you do not use all that energy.
High water content fruits are easy to digest and easy to process. Their high water content makes them ideal for weight loss on the fruitarian diet, or any diet for that matter. Make sure you eat lots of high water content fruit throughout the day and you are almost guaranteed to lose weight.
Fruitarian Meal Plan for Weight Loss
It is hard to come up with a fruitarian meal plan for weight loss because everyone is at different stages in their journey. Some people can handle more fruit at first and other people can handle less.
Like I said before, having a fruitarian breakfast is essential. It will start your day in the right direction. Start off with some papaya if you can get some. If that is not available you can do watermelon or a different melon that you prefer. Try to do only one type of fruit for your fruitarian breakfast so that it is easier for your body to digest it. You may want to do some light exercises before your breakfast so that your can jump start your digestive system.
If you don’t want to do a high water mono meal then go for a fruitarian smoothie. Again, try to keep your ingredients to the minimum, choose one fruit if possible, no more than three. Be sure to add lots of water to your blender. Some of my favorite ingredients for smoothies include bananas, mangos, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. Try some combination of those, you can’t go wrong with them.
For lunch you can do another mono meal (eating only one type of fruit) or another smoothie. A few options include a bunch of bananas, oranges or apples. You can also have a salad for lunch with tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and/or bell peppers, believe it or not, all of these are considered fruits (because they all have seeds).
Every time you reach for a snack you want to favor fruits. Berries are a great option. Bananas and apples will certainly fill you up. You can also do a smoothie as a snack but if you already had a smoothie for lunch and breakfast you may get a bit bored with it. Like I said before, as long as you are eating fruit you can’t go wrong.
Most fruitarians tend to enjoy a salad for dinner. I personally prefer to do fruit at night if it isn’t too cold or late in the evening. An orange juice for a night meal can be quite comforting. A bunch of grapes is good too. If you are moving too much lymph you may want to do a salad at night so that your body feels more comfortable while you sleep. Just make sure you have your salad two or three hours before bedtime so that you have enough time to break down all that cellulose and fiber.
Best Fruits for a Fruitarian Weight Loss
All fruits are good to lose weight but some are better than others. The fruits that will help you lose more weight are the ones that will help you detox faster. The most detoxifying fruits are those that are astringent in flavor. These include lemons, oranges, some grapes, kiwis, pineapples and grapefruit. All these will help with breaking up mucus and fatty substances in your body and they will get the lymph moving down the lymphatic system. Be careful with these and remember that you do not want to detox too fast or you may crash. If you need to slow things down you can eat more sweet fruits like bananas, avocados, figs and the like.
