Kanekiki Farm Updates from a Fruitarian Bodybuilder in Hawaii (Day #61)

February 5, 2017 Posted by brunotreves Kenekiki

Today is Monday. This marks the beginning of my 3rd week living as a work-trader at the Kanekiki Farm in Hawaii. I have been eating a raw vegan diet for the past two months, including mostly fruit and a few salads now and then.

Am I Staying at the Kanekiki Farm in Hawaii?

I am glad to say that last week wasn’t as bad as the one prior. There has been a lot of tension at the Kanekiki Farm, but it seems that we have moved past it. I think it was around Tuesday or Wednesday that things started to shift around. I made my peace with Sam and I solve some other conflicts that I had with some members of our raw vegan community. I even figured out a way to live with the cat that roams our hut.

Right now I sense a world of difference between how I feel today and how I was feeling a week ago. My desire to remain at the Kanekiki Farm has returned and as long as I am wanted here, I will stay. At least that is my view for now.

During the turmoil of the past couple of weeks I did look at some other options to move to. I found a place called Gaya Yoga Gardens and I found some other options at the Lolia Tantric Community and a community by the name of Pi’ilani. There are other options of places where I could rent a room or a tent space inside someone’s property but I rather live and work with people than be on my own.

I am currently in contact with all these places but I do not intend on leaving Kanekiki. Now that I have solve (almost) all my conflicts here I feel comfortable again and wish to stay for an indefinite amount of time.

Fruitarian Diet and Raw Vegan Diet Updates

Like I said earlier, I have been sticking to the raw vegan diet for the past two months and I have been very strict with it. To be honest, it hasn’t been hard at all. I never get any cooked food or animal food cravings, except sometimes when I think about a vegan Indian restaurant in Denver that my father and I went to a few times. For some reason I can’t forget about it and still want to visit once again.

In terms of fruitarianism, I have been a semi-fruitarian this whole time, eating more than 95% of my meals as fruit. However, I haven’t been able to stick to strict fruitarianism for long periods of time. I think the longest I have gone eating only fruit has been two weeks. The issue isn’t that fruit is insufficient, the issue is that when I see other people eating salads I get tempted and want to eat them as well. I know I can beat that behavior, but I think I need more time and processing around it.

Fruitarian Bodybuilding Updates

My bodybuilding routine has been on total hold over the past two weeks. The interpersonal conflicts I had took too much energy and I wasn’t able to focus on my training. I also lost motivation once I stopped eating a fruitarian diet and went back to vegetables. After all, I can’t be a real fruitarian bodybuilder if I am eating vegetables.

Now that we are two days away from February 1st I am placing my mindset again on doing a whole month of eating only fruit and practicing fruitarian bodybuilding every day. I am thinking that maybe I will set a simple goal, like eating only fruit and doing some form of physical activity for a total of two hours every day. This could include anything from lifting weights, to acro-yoga, to going for a walk or dancing. Working at the Kanekiki Farm won’t count for ours because that is work, not training.

I need to get into the habit of exercising even when I don’t want. That is the only way I will be able to look and feel like a real fruitarian bodybuilder.

Work-Trade at the Kanekiki Farm

Work trading has been great. Now that I work four hours each day instead of two I find myself getting a little more tired during work, especially towards the end. This is not an issue because I just take a five minute break and then I feel renewed.

Lately I have been taking care of clearing banana patches all over the Kanekiki Farm. I have also been helping at the greenhouse with planting and other easy tasks. I am really interested in learning more about permaculture techniques and everything that I need to know to run a garden and a farm. It is a ton of work but super rewarding.

Summarizing the Week at the Kanekiki Farm

Last week was good but I know this one will be better. I think we are past the storm and back on calm waters. I will continue to work, and take care of myself and others, and hopefully I will be writing more often, I am missing it quite a bit and I realize there is much I am not getting to say because so much time is passing between one blog and the next.

I also intend to make more videos and hopefully I will start uploading them soon. It is crazy to think I have over 100 videos that I have not yet posted online. It is time.
