Today was another awesome day at the Kanekiki Farm in Hawaii.
Traveling to Hilo to get 150 Papayas
I woke up easily without effort or an alarm. I stayed in bed until 6, then I walked to the Kanekiki community room and stretched on my own. At 6:30 a.m. Jake arrived and we practiced yoga together, it was our fourth morning in a row practicing yoga together. We have been slowly making the sequences slightly longer and a little more challenging. We also added a small meditation at the end.
At 8 a.m. a big group from the Kanekiki farm jumped on the truck and headed to Hilo. I was trying to avoid the trip to town but I needed to make sure that I was going to have enough papayas to do a seven day papaya fast starting on the first (and idea that Kim and I had).
The ride there wasn’t too bad, I got to play some music while sitting on the back seat. As soon as we parked I headed straight to the market and looked for the cheapest papayas I could find. A nice lady gave me a SWEET deal 3 papayas for $1, so I decided to buy 150 papayas from her to split by half with Kim. I also bought 3 pounds of longans to snack on.
After placing the papayas in the back of the truck we walked to a couple of stores nearby where some of the Kanekiki people tend to buy extra food and other goodies. Nothing in the store caught my attention so I got back to the truck, sat on the back and ate my longans.
Climbing a Massive Tree at Rainbow Falls
About an hour later everyone got back to the truck and we drove to Rainbow Falls, which is a touristic spot close to downtown Hilo. The waterfalls are 80 ft tall and almost 100 ft in diameter. The falls are part of the Hawai’i State Parks. There is no fee to see the falls and is open to the public 24/7.
I had never been to Rainbow Falls before, I had zero expectations. As soon as we arrived I got off the truck and saw a HUGE tree and began to climb it. Jack and Andy jumped on too and ended up climbing VERY high up the tree, I could barely see them from bellow, and I was already high to begin with. It was, with no doubt, the funniest tree I ever climbed in my life.
Awesome Pictures at Rainbow Falls
After getting down from the tree we walked 100 yards over a hill and down towards the waterfalls. They were majestic. We walked around and explored the area, we also took a ton of pictures.
While I was there I got to FaceTime with my parents and show them where I was. I am glad they got to see it live.
Raw Vegan Pizza and Dinner with the Kanekiki Farm
The ride back was somewhat uncomfortable. I sat on the back of the truck with all the boxes of fruit. I felt a bit sick with all the turning and breaking. Luckily the ride was only 45 minutes, not too bad. After getting to the Kanekiki farm I felt much better.
It took me a while to organize all 150 papayas. After that ate five of them and then went upstairs to get some work done but I wasn’t in the mood. About an hour later I got called downstairs to try the raw vegan pizza Bill had made using breadfruit as a base. It was quite tasty, he used tomatoes for sauce and other raw vegan topics on top. It was delicious.
After cleaning up I made a small salad with the left over sprouts I had on the fridge, cleaned up and prepared my fruitarian recipe for our New Years dessert dinner. It came out very well and people liked it a lot.
The following two hours went by fast, I didn’t get much done, I just relaxed. Around 4:30 p.m. I set up the Kanekiki community area for dinner. I placed some tables, chairs and brought up utensils and plates for everyone. At 5:30 p.m. we all sat, gave thanks and enjoyed some delicious fruitarian desserts.
Fruitarian Desserts and Bruno’s Music to Close the Year
There was a lot to share: raw cacao balls, raw chocolate mousse, pudding, banana nice-cream and more. I didn’t eat much because I wanted to avoid eating too much fat. I was fairly successful and an hour after finishing my meal I was feeling fine. This is the miracle of raw vegan foods and the fruitarian diet.
We finished dinner within an hour, cleaned up and then set up the chairs on the balcony to play some of my songs on the guitar. We have been doing this over the last few days with Betzael, Destiny and Jake. It was been a fun experience.
After an hour of singing I decided to lay down. I asked Kim to give me a massage, it felt wonderful. Now I am lying in bed. A big group from the Kanekiki farm went to Champagne ponds to look at the stars but I decided to stay and go to bed early.
Tomorrow I start my seven day papaya fast. I am very excited.
I know this is the beginning of a long and amazing year for me. Great things are coming and hopefully I will continue to enjoy them at the Kanekiki farm! =D
