Today was a great day for the Fruitarian Bodybuilder at the Kanekiki Community Fruit Farm.
The day started around 7 a.m. I woke up to the footsteps of my roommate. They tend to sound loud and shake the top of our bunk beds where I sleep. I am learning to live with it. It is not as bad in the morning, especially when I am running late for our meeting.
My first Day Working in the Garden
The meeting was shorts. Monday are harvest days, which means that it is one of the days we walk around the land and pick all the fruit that is ripe and ready to eat.
Instead of joining the harvesting team I decided to sign up to work in the greenhouse. I figured it would be dryer in there but my strategy failed. Because of the rain, we actually didn’t get to work until it stopped and when we got to the green house I found out that my job was to pick out weeds from the garden next to the green house. Either way I enjoyed my time.
I teamed up with Nick, one of my roommates, and we did a pretty good job. We didn’t get through much of it because we were not sure what to keep in and what to take out. It is a learning process.
After weeding we went inside the green house and take care of some other tasks including sweeping and planting seeds into small lettuce pots. I felt productive and our two hours of work went by very fast.
The Fruitarian Bodybuilder hits the Gym
As soon as we finished working I headed to the kitchen and made a smoothie with bananas and papayas. I also asked nick for some hair ties because my growing hair keeps getting on my face.
I took my smoothie upstairs and worked on finishing my blog about Day 4 Part 3. I also took care of fixing some broken links on the site. It was a tedious job, but I am glad it is all done.
About an hour after my smoothie I headed to the gym. It felt great to be there on a Monday, ready to do my first fruitarian bodybuilder workout. I didn’t do much, but it felt like a good start.
The Fruitarian Bodybuilder is keeping it Raw
My fruitarian workout wasn’t impressive but at least I can be proud for my determination to be raw. Today I focused on fruits and the only potentially cooked food I had was a little tahini with my salad.
I promised myself that I would stick to a raw vegan diet until the end of my trip to Hawaii. This could be for only 6 weeks or longer if everything works out. I figured there was no point on having made it all the way here to be controlled by the same temptations that were winning back at home.
Opening up the Kanekiki Community
Aside from the earlier workout and the commitment to stay raw, the best part of today was connecting with the Kanekiki community.
Today we had two meetings, one in the afternoon, where we checked in to share how we are doing, give gratitude and tie some loose ends, and another one in the evening, called the Masterminds Meeting, where we shared some deeper aspects of things we are working with within ourselves.
During the first meeting I shared how I had been feeling poorly lately and ensured everyone that things are better now. I also asked for support on staying raw and help to understand where things are and what is happening when. Everyone seemed to listen and agreed to help me out.
The second meeting was a little more personal and I won’t share much about that. I will only say that we talked about our goals, our fears, our attachments and other juicy subjects. It was a sweet time.
Breaking in and Getting Touched
After the second meeting I asked one of the girls in the community for some physical touch and she agreed to give me a massage. I laid on the floor facing down and she rubbed my back. It felt good to feel some physical love. After that I turned over and she laid her head on my chest as we rested on the ground.
The experience wasn’t romantic or anything like that. It was actually quite natural, I got a lot of value out of it and she did too. I must admit that at first I felt a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable with my request. Then I realized how much we all need touch and I was glad we both were able to receive.
What I appreciated most from that exchange was the ease of the interaction. I needed something and was willing to ask for it, she was open to give and was able to say yes. There really wasn’t much more to that. Surely enough I thought about what all this meant and made a big deal in my head but truth is that it wasn’t more than that. I wish we could all take this more detached approach to life. I think that if we did it would be easier to give and receive.
