Read “The Problem with our Habits“ in my new website:
Give Fruit a Chance
Humans are creatures of habit. Those born in a meat eating culture are likely to continue eating meat. Most people aren’t inspired or motivated to step outside their comfort zone, challenge the status quo, and learn about new approaches to nutrition.
Most of us are uncomfortable with change and with anything that may challenge our beliefs. Anyone who becomes curious about a raw vegan diet or a fruit based diet is likely to experience criticism. Resistance and opposition may come from family members, friends, peers and even strangers. The human brain is wired to resist change, it is one of our survival mechanisms.
Advertisement campaigns and mainstream education also play a huge role in reinforcing the status quo, misinforming children and adults. Most people in the United States are glued to their TV, spending an average of five hours per day watching shows, news and advertisements. Most of this media is controlled by the same organizations we mentioned earlier. If you don’t think we have been brainwashed, think again.
We are also bombarded with online advertisement, it’s on our computers and cell phones. Advertisements are so prevalent that we rarely notice them anymore, however, they still influence our thoughts and behaviors. Their sole purpose is to control our actions.
If you still don’t believe it, think about this: Since we were born we have seen countless fast-food advertisements on TV and online. Most of these were made to make us drink Coca Cola, drink beer, eat burgers, and indulge in other unhealthy behaviors. They mix their message with naked women and fast cars, they study our reactions and learn how to ingrain their ideas in our minds. How many ads have you seen, that persuade you to eat more kiwis? Here is one: Give Fruit a Chance.
