Today was a special day. I woke up early to get ready for my first trip to Kona. Kona is the main city in the big island of Hawaii. It is located on the western side of the island, all the way across from Puna which is on the eastern side.
I had a simple breakfast, 10 baby bananas give or take. We left around 7:30 a.m. and headed first to Hilo which is about 30 minutes away.
Once in Hilo we stopped at a coffee shop called Sugar Cane. I ordered a Blue Punch smoothie made of blueberries, bananas and coconut milk. Drank half of it and then headed outside to make a couple of videos.
Making Videos about the Raw Vegan Fruitarian Lifestyle
On the videos I talked about my second and third months practicing the raw vegan fruitarian diet. This were videos that I was hoping to recording a long time ago but for one reason and another I didn’t get to do them earlier.
On the videos I shared about my current state in the big island of Hawaii. I shared about the striggles that I had the first few days and how I have been able to overcome them lately. I also shared about the challenges that I had over the last couple of months practicing fruitarianism and raw veganism.
This lifestyle is simple but it isn’t easy. Esepcially when we start. There is much to learn and there is an adaptation process that takes a toll in the body, mind, heart and spirit. I don’t think there has ever been a person who had a smooth transition into fruitarianism / raw veganism.
The usual challenges include not being able to eat enough, dealing with detox reactions, getting caught up on cravings and trying to overcome cooked food addictions. There are very few people who make this lifestyle a long term success. Those who make it all the way deserve my respect.
Our Drive to Kona
After an hour at Sugar Cane we got back in the car and continued to head North West towards Kona. The scenery was quite spectacular. It is said that the big island of Hawaii contain 11 of the 14 different world climate zones.
During the ride we passed through tropical rainforests, semi-arid deserts, green plains and sandy beaches. I had never experienced anything like that.
We also made a few stops along the way, including a resting point which the name I cannot remember. The photo I added bellow speaks for its own. Absolutely gorgeous and breath taking.
Making it to the Beach and Driving Back
After a two hour ride we made it to one of the beaches near Kona. We drove towards the back and parked on the last parking area where tourists don’t tend to go. The area was pretty peaceful, there was 100 people there at most.
The water was colder than I was expecting but easier than enjoy than the water in L.A. We spent about two hours there and then headed back. We had planned to visit the city of Kona but unfortunately we ran out of time.
On our way back we took a different road and once again got to experience a handful of different sceneries. We went from sandy beaches to fields of rocky solid lava. We also passed by one of the island volcanoes, at that point the weather got very foggy and then rain started to pour on us. By the time we made it to Hilo all the rain was gone and the sun was setting in the horizon.
Lemon with Tomatoes
As soon as we got to the far I got off the car and made a salad with everything I had available, which wasn’t much. We are not allowed to open the fridge after 5 p.m. (to conserve energy) so I had to work with what I had: A cucumber, three tomatoes, some garlic and one huge lemon. I think I overdid the lemon. Let’s just say it wasn’t the best salad I ever had.
If I’ve had a choice I would had preferred to attend the “Taco Tuesday” night that they have at a nearby farm called “Cinderland”. However, we did not make it on time for that either. Another option was to walk to the warm ponds and go swimming in the dark but I was too hungry and too tired for that. Maybe next week.
Yoga for Digestion
After washing my salad bowl I set up a yoga mat in the community room and invited one of the girls from the community to practice with me. We had a really nice session, about 30 minutes long. It was really nice.
Now I am writing this blog, while the younger kids from the community watch “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, or something like that. It’s a bit distracting and to be honest it annoys me. Especially because the rule here is that we all watch one community movie per week. I am not going to say anything tonight, but I will probably bring it up during our next community meeting. After all, it is 9 a.m. and this is the only community space we have to rest and get work done after hours.
Summarizing the Day
I felt like today was pretty great. Nothing too crazy but fabulous nonetheless. The ride was nice and I got to talk to Barb about community building practices and my newly found passion for OneCoin and cryptocurrencies.
I actually joined a webinar call on our ride back to the Kanekiki Farm. Towards the end of the call I got a surprise request to speak in front of 100 people and share my story of how I got involved with OneCoin and the OneLife Network. It was pretty cool to have a business call on my way back to the farm. I felt like a pro.
